Hi there,

I hope all is good.

Here is some 'vidspiration' to feast on:

Start an Audio or Video podcast?

If you are wondering whether to start an audio only podcast or a video podcast that you then turn into an audio podcast, you should watch this episode from ThinkMedia.

Spoiler: If you are short on time, their answer is in most cases start a video podcast to get all that awesome search traffic from YouTube plus monetization streams and then distribute the audio to the Podcast platforms.

There are also key takeaways about playing the long game:

According to ThinkMedia most podcasts fail due to inconsistency:

  • 47% of podcasts stop after three or fewer episodes.
  • 90% quit before episode 20—so consistency is the cheat code.
  • Milestones: publishing 21 episodes puts you in the top 1% of podcasts; 100 episodes and ~2 years often correlate with significant growth and monetization.
  • One video episode can fuel an entire content strategy through clips, transcripts, blog posts, newsletters, and social media, making video podcasting a high-leverage choice for creators and businesses.

Document your transition

Kajabi (the online platform I use) held a meet up of their top partners. These are top tier folks who know a thing or two about content marketing and monetisation.

This paragraph stood out:

"Building in public outperforms polished content, and almost no one is doing it. The Partners winning on content weren't producing more; they were documenting more. A post about the revenue stream they killed. A video of the pivot in real time. People want to watch the real thing get figured out. If you're in a transition right now, that transition is your best content."

We say: You don't need to be on the perfect journey to make videos.

Gets in the way

I have noticed on the YouTube mobile app (at least in the UK) when you watch an Ad then skip it, sometimes you get a big call to action button appear across the video.

It remains for several seconds obscuring the bottom left corner to entice you to re-engage with the Ad you skipped.

So ... it makes me think when editing you should avoid putting important info on your videos in that area as it will be obscured by the overlay.

Of course YouTube may move the position in future :(

This blew up

You are probably in some huge facebook groups in your niche (or maybe run one yourself), well look at which posts really hit a home run with the members.

For example if I was in the travel niche I'd be making a short form video based on the topic above.

666 comments in a few days means you already know the angle resonates with an audience, and may do the same on other platforms and create comment love to boost your video.

So your video short could be something like:

"Look at this XYZ dish [visual of food]. This is totally the best food I ate in Japan, [add more detail]. If you've been to Japan- share what was your favourite food in the comments?'

Let me take that back

New! You can now edit your Instagram comments as long as you act within 15 minutes.

DJI Osmo Pocket 4 has launched

If you've watched travel or walking tour vlogs, chances are you've seen DJI Pocket 3 video quality without even realising how small this camera is.

Well now the 4 has just been announced, if you want a good overview watch this:

I went to see Elvis

Last week I went to see the documentary EPIC, Elvis Presley in Concert at the IMAX in London.

The film is an incredible insight into Elvis the performer with newly discovered behind the scenes footage.

It's already available to rent/stream in many countries but obviously wins on the big screen.

So when I watch a movie I always look for things that can be applied to videos.

In this case here's just three:

  • Voiceover is powerful. The Director pieced together audio from Elvis interviews so his voice narrates the film. Any audio you have, like podcasts, talks, webinars can become the backbone of a video. You already have the resource sitting there. Even if it won't work as a long form video it can be broken up for shorts.
  • Mixing in, archive, BTS (behind the scenes) professionally filmed performance keeps the film varied and moving. So always think what archive or extras can you insert to keep your videos from being too samey. For example, if you are giving a presentation, film the journey on the way there and some thoughts on camera to build up to the talk.
  • The power of close ups! We see his emotions right up close in the performances, don't just shoot wide and mid shots. Put your telephoto to use.

Even if you are not a huge Elvis fan, go watch it and see what you think!

Speak soon,

Jules
