Sorry for the lack of Viewsletters recently.

I went on a month road trip/vacation to Croatia and Serbia and put my feet up too long :)

Shoot Stock B-roll (aka cutaway shots)

Talking about travelling, I have mentioned this before but no harm in shooting your own stock video footage.

The other day I was looking for a sign that said 'Arrivals', like an airport sign.

Obviously B-roll of 'Arrivals' can be used in different ways not just travel videos, for example a life journey, business journey, reaching your goals etc.

So though I did film many other clips when away, I was kicking myself I did't film signs as I left the airport.

Keep looking for signs and symbols around you and shoot 10 - 20 secs clips.

You can easily search your Photos app by keywords to find them later when editing.

Well they can say goodbye to monetization.

Whilst I do X ....

I have noticed a trend, simple talking head video are doing well:

'Ten things I learned when I ...' etc

But 8 to 10 minutes of talking head footage is dull, and finding enough relevant B-roll and graphics is very time consuming to cover it all evenly.

Instead DO something, like a hobby, or a task and film that as B-roll.

Example off the top of my head:

10 big lessons I learned as Car Salesman that doubled my income (whilst we see you wash your car)

Here is a real example, tips about living abroad (whilst walking his dog)

Stuck on what to do in your video? Prompt AI with your video topic and title plus add hobbies, interests, location for B-roll inspiration.

AI coach for Video Editing?

So as you know I have used ScreenFlow for years, but Final Cut Pro is sitting on my MacBook, a one time purchase I made over a decade ago, quietly updating in the background.

I have dabbled in the past but recently started to go deeper and being self taught do get stuck sometimes.

Using the free Google App on my iPhone with AI mode - it's like an over the shoulder editing coach.

It works best when I prompt a specific issue, the answers have been so good, and dug me out of a hole fast.

But it's not a structured course.

Example prompts:

FCP add my B-roll but it keeps dropping below my top track

FCP best way to clip out from a landscape 16:9 project a vertical short

(Side note: with the new FCP updates you copy your 16:9 landscape project and with a couple of clicks it frames everything to fit in a vertical project - manual tweaks needed though)

My bad, I hardly mention LinkedIn video here.

But, you should be using it.

I am lazy on LinkedIn... but I did find this quote interesting:

"Most advice about LinkedIn video tells you to keep it short. The data says the opposite. We measured 100,758 native LinkedIn videos published over the last 12 months, and the highest-engagement clips run 1 to 5 minutes, not 15 seconds"

I still love my iPhone more than any camera for it's flexibility, lens options and more, but 'cinematic' pocket cameras are on the the rise for sure.
